Horse Farm puts grooming, foals and ranch guests in one stable

upjers’ horse sim blends daily care with a light tycoon game about running a guest ranch. It is gentle and affectionate, if a little thin once the novelty of each new breed wears off.

Horse Farm knows exactly who it is for. From the first minutes, the game is about horses and ponies: feeding them, grooming them, keeping their stables clean and, before long, breeding them so that new foals arrive at your ranch. If you spent childhood weekends at a riding school, or still do, the routine will feel immediately familiar and comforting.

Around the horses sits a second game, a mix of tycoon and strategy about running a dude ranch. You build stables, pastures, riding areas and amenities, plan your guests’ stay, pamper them with treats and build cosy lodges for them to stay in. The two halves support each other: happy guests pay for better facilities, and better facilities mean more horses.

A daily round of brushes, hay and clean straw

The care loop is the heart of Horse Farm. Each horse needs feeding and grooming, and its stable needs keeping clean. The actions are quick, and the horses respond with visible contentment, which makes the round feel like looking after real animals rather than ticking boxes. It is the game on our shelf that most rewards a small, consistent daily habit.

Breeds include Hanoverians, Arabians, Appaloosas, Quarter Horses and Shetland ponies, each looking distinct enough that a growing stable feels varied. We found ourselves planning which breed to add next more for the pleasure of seeing it than for any practical reason, which is exactly the spirit the game is going for.

Foals, pedigrees and a growing herd

Breeding gives the long game its direction. You can breed your horses and welcome new foals to the ranch, and watching a foal grow into a working member of the herd is the warmest moment the game offers. It encourages you to think a little about which horses to pair, without demanding spreadsheet-level planning.

The downside is that once you have experienced the main breeds and a few foals, the routine does not change dramatically. New levels add more items and customisation, and regular events add fresh content, but the care loop itself stays much the same. For devoted horse lovers that consistency is comforting; others may drift after a month or so.

Running a guest ranch on the side

The ranch-management half is lighter but welcome. Guests visit and stay in lodges, and you keep them happy with treats and good amenities. Building out stables, pastures and riding areas earns profits you reinvest into the ranch, and creative customisation lets you change buildings, fences, windows and more.

Quests guide you through this side of the game and unlock new options as you level up. It is never demanding, and it gives sessions a second thread when your horses are already fed and groomed. We liked designing the ranch layout, though the strategy element is gentle rather than truly challenging.

Riding with friends across browser and phone

Horse Farm runs in a browser on PC and also as an app on iOS, Android and Amazon devices. That makes the daily care round easy to fit in, and we did most of ours on a phone, saving bigger building sessions for the laptop. Friends can visit your ranch and go on rides together, which adds a sociable touch.

The shop is present and occasionally insistent, particularly around new breeds and decorations. The free path is fair for steady carers, though, and most of what matters can be earned through regular play. Patience, rather than spending, is the real currency here, which suits the calm temperament the game rewards.

Planting week one in Horse Farm

  1. Feed, groom and clean every stable on each visit; the daily care round underpins everything else on the ranch.
  2. Follow the opening quests to unlock pastures and riding areas, which make the ranch more attractive to guests.
  3. Build a cosy lodge early so guests can stay and start bringing income into the ranch.
  4. Install the app if you can, and use it for short care rounds between other jobs during the day.
  5. By week’s end, look at breeding and plan your first foal from two healthy horses.

What we love

  • A gentle, affectionate care routine that rewards daily attention
  • Distinct breeds from Arabians to Shetland ponies with real visual variety
  • Foals arriving through breeding give the herd a sense of family
  • Easy handover between browser and app for quick care rounds

What grates

  • The care loop changes little once the main breeds are collected
  • Ranch strategy stays light and rarely feels truly challenging
  • Shop offers cluster around new breeds and decorations

Who Horse Farm will charm

Horse Farm is for horse lovers first and farm players second. If daily grooming, clean stables and new foals sound like a lovely way to end the day, and a light guest-ranch game on top is a bonus, this will make you very happy.

Horse Farm, harvested

Horse Farm is affectionate, calm and easy to fit around a busy week, especially with the app. Its care routine and breeding give it genuine warmth, and the guest ranch adds a pleasant second thread. It lacks the depth of our top picks and repeats itself after a month, but for anyone who simply loves horses, it is a gentle and welcoming stable.
